Sort Out The File Before It Costs You

Files that were set up quickly and grew sideways, straightened out so the reports stop contradicting each other.

What A Cleanup Fixes

A cleanup is targeted repair work on an existing file rather than a rebuild. The goal is a file whose balance sheet is defensible, whose profit and loss statement groups things the way you actually think about them, and whose history stops changing.

  • Duplicate and near-duplicate accounts merged
  • Transactions reclassified into the accounts they belong in
  • Uncategorized and Ask My Accountant cleared out
  • Opening balance equity resolved and explained
  • Undeposited funds and unapplied payments cleaned up
  • Bank feeds reconnected and duplicate imports removed
  • Prior periods reconciled and then closed

The Symptoms That Bring People Here

  • Income looks wrong because transfers were booked as revenue
  • A large balance sits in an account nobody can explain
  • The same vendor appears three times under slightly different names
  • Last year's profit changed since last year
  • A lender asked for statements and the file is not presentable
  • The previous bookkeeper left and nobody knows how it was set up

How The Work Is Scoped

The file is reviewed first and you get a plain description of what is wrong, how far back it goes, and what fixing it involves, before any work starts. Some files need one quarter corrected. Some need three years reclassified and reconciled. Both are ordinary, and knowing which one you have is the point of the review.

Once the file is corrected, prior periods are closed so the history stops moving, and either you keep it current or an ongoing engagement does.

Cleanup Work For Huntsville, AL Businesses

Cleanups arrive here from all over North Alabama, often after a growth year, a staff change, or a lender request. Everything can be done on read-only or accountant access, so the file never leaves your account.

Before You Call About QuickBooks Cleanup / Reclassification

How long does a cleanup take?

It depends on how many periods are affected and how much of the activity was categorized at all. The review at the start is what answers that question honestly rather than optimistically.

Will my prior tax returns need amending?

Sometimes. If a correction changes reported income or deductions for a filed year, an amended return may be worth filing. That gets discussed with the numbers in front of you, not assumed.

Can you clean it up and then leave me to run it?

Yes. Plenty of clients want the file corrected, the structure explained, and then to carry on themselves. Training is available for that handover.
